Frequently asked questions
Why do I get a written estimate before you start, rather than a phone quote?
Because a quote given over the phone, without seeing your documents, isn't worth much. We look at what you're dealing with first, then put the cost in writing so you know exactly what you're agreeing to before anything starts.
Do you charge by the hour like most solicitors in London?
Not by default. We quote fixed fees wherever the law and the type of case allow it. When a matter genuinely can't be fixed-fee, we tell you the likely range and explain what could push it up or down.
Will I deal with a different person each time I call?
No. One person from our team handles your case from the first conversation to the end. If you've been passed between people at another firm before, that's exactly what we don't do here.
How many people actually work at Hartwell & Co?
Four of us: two solicitors, a paralegal, and me. We kept the team small on purpose, so cases don't get lost between people.
